March 11, 2012

So far, 2012 has been successful.  First of all, we have had an unusually mild winter which has kept spirits up in hopes of an early spring.  It goes without saying that several of us have taken the bikes out for short rides.  Who can resist?

In February we hosted our second annual Valentine's Day dance and raised $1500.00 for the Brunswick Food Bank.  The dance sold out within 2 hours of opening the doors.  What a great feeling that is.  Our hard work paid off, people had a great time, and we raised money for a charity in our local community.

The next BIG deal is coming in May.  We're organizing a little shin dig called The Patriot Ride & BBQ Bash.  The 26th of May falls on a Saturday this year AND it is Memorial Day weekend.  Why have it on a holiday weekend when everyone travels?  Not everyone.....and especially not those who participate in Rolling Thunder.  Plus there are plenty of folks who prefer to stay home and support local events.  The beneficiary of this event is Wounded Warrior Project.

The day begins with a motorcycle ride that should last about 2-2.5 hours.  We're going to take the bikers on a scenic ride to Antietam Battlefield, very fitting for this particular weekend.  A different route is planned for the return ride to the Eagles.  Afterwards, a BBQ lunch will be enjoyed by all.  Ride fees include the lunch.  The afternoon is full of entertainment too.  We have some vendors coming and at least one other exhibit - a K-9 demonstration by our county Sheriff's office.  That's the high level view.  You can find out more information under our Events tab.

December 2011

We are winding down the 2011 year and preparing for 2012.  This year brought us opportunities to help several charities and make some great memories.

Our events made it possible to donate monies to the Hurwitz Breast Cancer Fund of Frederick, MD and the Heartly House.  Earlier in the year a ride was organized to raise money for an organization that helps disabled adults called Community Living.  Later and in much cooler weather we hosted a Santa bike ride which allowed us to make the Christmas holiday special for a local family in need.   Following that, our group members pitched in to make sure 15 families had gifts under the tree for their children.

There are several other smaller things we've done throughout the year, but the point is, we are making a difference.  There is no better feeling than knowing someone is smiling because someone else cared.

We wish everyone a peaceful, healthy, and joyous Christmas season.  May God's blessings enrich your life and may He help guide you and your family safely into 2012.

Eagle Riders Group

March 2011

What a beginning it has been for us!  Launched in late 2009 by a few hard working members of the Eagles, the Eagle Riders Group has taken off.  We are soaring with pride after hosting and/or participating in several successful events in 2010.  As we move into 2011, we are pumped up and ready to keep the excitement alive.

Our group membership has grown to approximately 35.  Those who committed to Officer positions during our first year have graciously continued their roles.  We have a few riders that have paid us a visit and plan to join, in addition to consistently receiving inquiries about who we are and how to join.

The local paper, the Brunswick Citizen as well as the county paper, The Frederick News Post published articles about our group and recent endeavors.  The publicity has helped spawn interest in the group as well as local charities that we've been fortunate to work with.

This year we're gearing up to host several events.  Our first will be a benefit dance held just in time for Valentine's Day.  Following that in the Fall will be our second annual car/truck/bike show.  A portion of the proceeds will again be donated to the Frederick County 4-H Therapeutic Riding Program.  Our final big fundraiser will be a fall dance to benefit a local charitable organization, the Hurwitz Breast Cancer Foundation.

December proved exciting as we partnered with a local rider that for years has been hosting a Santa Claus ride.  Each chilly winter he transforms into Santa, jumps on his Harley, and rides around town waving to the children that run outside to catch a glimpse (.....and the parents:).  2010 was our first time participating and we can say, it was truly heart warming.  So much so that the warmth of our hearts overshadowed the chilly temperatures.  Our hope is to turn this into an annual fundraising/toy collection for the countless children that need a little Christmas cheer each year.  And, we also want to help the parents who struggle to give their children a joyous Christmas morning.

Wish us luck and success as we dive into 2011!!
